Southern New Mexico N Scalers

Las Cruces Model Railroad Clubs

The Southern New Mexico N Scalers N Scale group is a fresh startup and now each group ,HO and N, has been given a building (2 buildings) on the Fair’s property to build new layouts.
Our current focus is raising funds to construct a layout in our new building.
Our rent, electric and water are all free but there are only a few members and a lot of work to do. The buildings are fairly sound but will require minimal work.
The layout room size in the N Scale building is in total 20’ X 63’ with a 15’ X 20’ bathroom area and possibly a large storage area as well.
Both Clubs are open to the public during the fair for 5 days a year as well as other functions that come up on the grounds.
We are currently soliciting Donations of ANY type to help with the initial construction.

If you would like to contribute please send them to our club and the funds or merchandise will be handled by Mike Fifer on behalf of the clubs. I will also be willing to post names of contributors on this site if you wish.
We will also be selling advertising space on an 8’ X 63’ wall once we are out there. Rates for that have not been determined. Below are some pictures and possible layout designs and plans so far.
For more information call 575-523-9743 and ask for Mike or Robin

Current News
We had a work session on Wednesday the 9th of May and three members attended. We were able to get all of the inside walls painted and ready to paint the floor.  A/C  has been fixed and is turned on.
Thanks to all those who have been showing up and we have made great progress on the building.

Here is our initial membership structure.

Charter members are currently paying $20 per month with the understanding that they will contribute $50 each to purchase lumber to create the initial bench work.

Charter members have all rights and will be recognized as charter members in some manner in the future.

Regular members are currently paying $20 per month.

Regular members have all rights but will not be recognized as charter members.

Associate members are currently paying $10 a month or $100 per year.

Associate members have running rights and working rights but no voting rights and no door combination.

It has been discussed that lowering of the dues will take place once layout has been constructed.

Meetings every Wednesday evening at 7:00PM at IHOP on Del Rey and Hwy 70 in Las Cruces

This is the finalized stage 1 plan. The red main line has been re-configured to reflect 18” min radius for passenger service while the Yellow line is original comfit. And would be mostly a freight line. The max. Height is now 6” and the left side of the layout is 2% grade and right side is 1% grade.  This one will be 48’ X 12’ which will leave about 8 feet of space on the right side end for future expansion (if desired). The layout will use Kato Unitrack and Atlas flex in the staging area. It will be built on 4’ X 8’ modularly designed tables and cookie cutter on 440 Homasote.

We all realize Unitrack is not prototype but for a small varied group it allows for sectional building and easy, above board, repairs and maintenance, plus reliability as well. Industry and sidings can be added and planned in but the idea is to get a layout up and running as soon as possible.
